READ AT YOUR OWN RISK
September, 1939, Hitler’s office
“Hitler, Sir the American’s have started on their own nuclear research team called the “Manhattan Project” Nuclear research has become priority in more than just America” Hitler the nazi leader calmly looked into the other mans eyes with a glare of discontent. The germans had been studying nuclear weapons as a side project but now it needed be priority. If Albert Einstein there head physicist discovered how to make a weapon form of such power it would cost Germany the war. Hitler calmly and with complete authority said “Get the top physicist’s and get Eric schulmann as the head of this project we need to beat those Americans to the nuke, Also make sure Uranium club II has someone to keep control of the uranium deposit, plutonium is too expensive” “Y…Yes sir” The man exited the room with a large amount of paper in his hand and as he exited the windows showed the sunlight shining on his hat which contained a sparkling nazi symbol on it, World war II was about to begin and so was the first research into turning a destructive power that could level cities into a weapon.
January, 1939, Dulles Airport
“Sigmund” a name that he know needed to get used to entered the airport and casually checked through the security showing a pass for all the metal objects, His weapons would be sent in some discreet manner to his office in Germany where he would spy and probably kill a Nazi scientist or too for figuring out his true purpose. Sigmund had been briefed a while ago along with other spies each one infiltrating a different sect, The commander had told them that America had officially entered war with Germany and was now part of World War II, What tidings that brings for America Sigmund did not know.
“Hey Johnson, You forgot something” Said Gordon who looked out of place in the airport in his Crisp uniform. He ran towards “Sigmund” and almost tackled him, it was a tiny crowbar that hinted to a inside joke between him and his pal Gordon. Sigmund was leaving for Germany to spy on the German uranium club, the Program he was in was called Project ALTOS a top secret program that was used to spy, hinder and eventually stop the nuclear research happening in Germany, His task was vital in the safety of millions of American lives and maybe the world too Sigmund was one of the lucky spies who were going to stop the research, he looked back at his friends and superiors then climbed aboard the aero plane and flew off to a land of hate and extreme racism, Here comes Sigmund, Uranium club.
CHAPTER 1: Sworn in
September, 1939, Berlin.
Sigmund stepped out of his plane and approached the two men dressed in formal uniform and oddly enough there uniform’s, did all soldiers where the uniforms everywhere? This was a thought for another day so Sigmund approached them and gave them the code word, A word that would let them know that he was with them and he was part of the uranium club. “Sigmund” they acknowledged him in German but his mind instantly turned the words into English “Yes, Sigmund freud, I believe we have our first meeting today” “Correct, follow us, Klaus clusius is in the car, he will take you to the office and then show you to the meeting” The two man walked after telling him that and Sigmund had no choice but to follow. “Klaus clusius” Sigmund let that roll around his tongue an interesting character, Klaus was the director of the institute of chemistry and in charge of “Heavy water” production, a material that was very useful in the production of nuclear research a very good conducter one of the only substance powerful enough to contain nuclear energy, a material Norway was well under blocking from reaching Germany but of course tons of that stuff still made it into Germany and was used in large amounts for the research.
Sigmund reached the car which was a sleek black car that looked to be very expensive, A car either a rich person or in this case a person high in the government would own. Inside the car sat a young man who gleamed with intelligence and curiosity. “My names is Klaus, Very nice to meet you, we have much to talk about” Klaus immediately pulled down Sigmund into the seat and the car started abruptly Klaus held his hand out and said “ I am in charge of the heavy water, a very good conductor and crucial to our research” The man went on droning about the importance of heavy water and how it would be so beneficial to their research, Sigmund listened intently keen on getting and glimpse of internal projects when finally the man spoke about Sigmund’s role in all of this. “Welcome to the uranium club Sigmund Freud you will be in charge with me on the production of heavy water” Sigmund was amazed that the American governments had managed to put him so high up in the ranks not only was it an honor but it was the perfect chance to gain information but of course being this high up he would be scrutinized and looked at thoroughly for his brains, he had a lot of knowledge on everyone in the uranium club and knew exactly what they were researching but if it came to offering ideas on how to produce more heavy water he would be stumped. Sigmund hoped dearly that he was really only in charge of looking after the uranium anything else and his cover would probably be blow and he would executed after days of brutal torture and humiliation at his failure to resist there torture, He had heard stories, none good.
Chapter 2: First day
Sigmund entered the room and sat down in the only empty seat in the entire office, Every single person in this room was a genius of unparallel magnitude matching wits with Einstein and duking it out with Newton he wondered how many of these people had lived the everyday life of a citizen and if they were with the Nazi cause or simply just doing research under a banner that they believed they could be safe under, What did Sigmund care let them think they’re safe, once project ALTOS came into their view they’ll be packing their bags and running to America to beg for forgiveness and in turn they will receive their due punishment for the death of so many people.
“Now that everyone has arrived let me introduce myself, I am walther Bothe the head of this project and also the head of the institution of physic” The rest of the men sat silently giving a light clap almost as if applauding to a mildy interesting cinema movie. Sigmund copied the likeliness of the men and did the same the rest of the men introduced themselves the same way and each time Sigmund clapped even though walther and Klaus were the only actual important people since they gave the most to the uranium club then any of the other people in here. It soon came time for Sigmund to introduce himself “I am Sigmund freud the second in command to Klaus and the second manager of our Heavy water flow” The rest of the man yet again applauded lightly and after the introductions the Scientists went back into their heated discussion about science each one offering something to the table and then getting an answer that immediately canceled out their idea, Typical scientists scrutinizing each and every answer just to make their idea seem infinitely better then the other person’s. They were all fighting over Hitler’s respect most probably whoever made the nuke first would get a drastic upgrade no doubt, “I must get back to work, I shall see you all at a later date in my office” Sigmund got up and left the table and let the scientists bicker some more not one of them noticing him leaving to caught up in their discussion.
Sigmund arrived in his room and looked around there was a single mahogany chair and a large desk with a ballpoint pen laying on the side next to a pile of folders each one seeming bigger than the last the walls were painted a red color and on the center of the wall was a nazi symbol painted on, the thought of all the jews being killed at this moment made him a little nauseous and none of it was made better by the woman who entered next she had blond hair that reached to her sown to her waist she also had piercing blue eyes and a tannish skin and looked good but of course she was only in this place because that wretched nazi leaders obsession with blonde haired and blue eyed people. “I am Natasha Reznov, your secretary” Sigmund didn’t expect such a refined sense of English to come out of the girls mouth “Y-you speak English?” Said Sigmund stuttering a little, “Yes I also speak Spanish, German, French and Russian” That was a lot of languages even for Sigmund but the way she said that reminded him of someone, Sigmund tried to remember when it hit him she wasn’t german she was one of the England men or in this case woman assigned with him The Americans weren’t the only one’s who needed spies. “A wrong person in the right time can make all the difference” Said Sigmund, if the girl answered correctly then hr would be able to confirm that she was his assigned subordinate. “Mr. Freeman” said Natasha, “Thank god for a second there I thought that I was talking to an actual german” The look on her face was that of amusement “Did you really think I could speak Spanish?” She chuckled, of course spain wasn’t involved in this war so there was no need for her to need the knowledge of knowing that, “Mr. Freud, we have much to discuss, especially pertaining to Heavy Water”.
CHapteR 3: Family renunion
“listen up” Said Natasha as she hit him in the back of the shoulder “The british army and a bunch of Norwegians are launching an attack on the largest producer of heavy water in the entire world, Vemork” Sigmund was hit by a blast of surprise, He controlled heavy water production partially which meant he would be crucial in this project because he could open a backdoor into the factory and of course seize all the heavy water and then Sigmund would become a war hero but of course there was always the planning and when it was at and such. You’ll be part of operation grouse, a group of Norwegian nationals that will invade and hopefully destroy vemork, you ready” “No but ill try to” She laughed but the Sigmund’s mind wondered to how he would escape and carry out this command without being branded as a spy. “So, if im gone who’s going to replace me?” but the answer walked into the room,” Johnson how’s it been” Standing in the doorway was Gordon who after shaving his beard looked very much alike to Sigmund, “You didn’t think id leave you to fend for yourself, did you?” Gordon spoke and near perfect german without a flaw, “Did I tell you my mom is German” He laughed and plopped himself down into the seat Sigmund was recently sitting in, He was wearing a white labcoat similar to that of Sigmunds. “So how are we going to leave?” “Just pick up your bags and we’ll make our way to the rendezvous”
After a change of clothes and a rather wide brimmed hat Sigmund was almost unrecognizable and it was a good thing too because a few minutes after he left Klaus had entered Gordon’s office to discuss with him the reliability of the Norwegian plant, little did he know that his had been scientist would be the failure of the entire project. Sigmund entered the glossy black car and sat with Natasha in the back, “Natasha, Do you have any loved ones at home?” Natasha sat their silent and Sigmund looking into her eyes could tell that this was a questions she seldom answered, “I once loved a man, he became a nazi and killed my entire family, my mother a jew and my father a German the fit Hitler’s perfect race description” Sigmund’s suspected she was jewish but he hadn’t expected her to say all of that, Sigmund’s chances were as good as dead after that sentence. The car abruptly stopped making Sigmund lurch forward, the driver in the front said only 2 words, “Were here” Sigmund stepped out of the car and was confronted with two completely unexpected things, first was the commander chewing gum and acting completely calm and the second was his half brother. Who happened to be a major leaguer and baseball and was know a big figure in this project, no wonder he had gotten such a high position in the uranium club. “Welcome to operation Grouse, you’ve got the blueprints right?”
Chapter 4: lost
Sigmund had in fact brought his blueprints which were required to get the layout of the land and complete the mission successfully, The team codenamed “Swallow” Studied the blueprints vigorously half of the mission was to get to the rendezvous with Operation Freshmen and the rest was to infiltrate and then destroy the facility. He was going to ski to the rendezvous with 4 other Norwegian commandos, a title well deserved because each and every one of them was skilled and grizzly, Sigmunds job was much like that of a navigator he would lead the way through the artic storms and get them inside. He fitted himself with large coats and inside each one was one m14 extra ammunition 2 grenades and a pistol for emergencies. Sigmunds half brother had left a few days ago after briefing him on the mission, he would get to the rendezvous meet up with the british paragliders then blow the station to kingdom kong and if anyone was injured he was the doctor and would his best to help them recover.
The names of his fellow commandos went as so Rolf Vikard, Torgils Magnus, Oliver caj, and Sigmund who were all now seated in a plane ready to be dropped into the compound Sigmund had head he was now special forces and as such he would come before the advance force, Sigmund looked down at the blazing winds and without a moment of hesitation jumped with the rest of his comrades feeling the wind blow against his face was refreshing, refreshing till the cold kicked in and then Sigmund hit the ground and started sliding forward and gaining momentum. Sigmund adjusted his goggles and looked into the wintery blaze all that could be seen was a tree a few feet away and a large quantity of snow the weather was terrible and he wondered how any of the paragliders would make it in such a condition but that was something saved for the rendezvous. Sigmund pushed himself off and watched himself glide it was an incredible feeling ever few seconds revealed a few feet of terrain and the bitter cold that had been hugging him like a coat before had changed to heat or maybe just a sense of nothing adrenaline overpowered him as he deftly dodged trees which seemed to increase in quantity and abundance every time he dodge one another 4 appeared in his face and almost caused him to crash several times, in a few hours he was seeing the other team members make the hand signals that means that they had somehow gotten lost. They stopped and surveyed there surroundings, “You can’t be serious, how are we lost your our guide” said oliver to Sigmund in a somewhat angry fashion “The morons airdropped us in the wrong place, were not on the map which means were on our own till we find the british team.
Chapter 5: Three pink elephants
The team had been lucky enough to land in the midst of a patch of fruit, there were a few brambles of blackberries here and there and around them there was game which to the teams dismay required ammo to kill and that was something they could spare very little of every little bit of ammo counted and too Sigmund’s relief he wasn’t that bad of a shot. For at least a week or so Sigmund had to eat cooked deer intestines the commando’s were more seasoned then than Sigmund in manners pertaining to something like this but Sigmund complied grumpily and ate some nasty things at some point around 4:00 pm they made contact with the british team who treated them with extreme distrust as if a group of seasoned veterans could be so easily knocked out and somehow their identities stolen.
“How do we know your reall who you say you are” Said the leading officer of the british troops “Easy” said oliver, “answer this question, what did you see today in the morning” “three pink elephants” said the british captain who looked relieved that we had asked the question, it was the code question to prove that they were really the special forces that were sent out. The captain invited them to a tent in the middle of their camp “Im sorry to say that the paragliders failed all of them except one is either dead or captured” The captain said in a sorrowful tone as if recalling something that he hadn’t even witnessed, “Who is the survivor” Sigmund asked out of curiosity and out of concern because he wanted to know exactly what happened to have caused such a misfortune. “The lone survivor is a girl named Natasha” Sigmund was visibly shocked, Natasha had survived and more importantly she was in the mission Sigmund didn’t know wether to be happy or angry during the briefings Natasha and Sigmund had developed a thing with each other a mutual relationship and even if she was a strong independent woman hearing that she put herself in danger made Sigmund a bit overprotective.
“Where is she, how is she, can I see her?” Sigmund bombarded the man with questions on Natasha and her well being, The captain said nothing and escorted him to the medical tent on the far side of the tent he then left to rejoin the other members and left Sigmund to his own devices, so Sigmund walked inside and was confronted with a smiling mouth and eye’s full of sadness. She looked a but pale and her arm was bandaged up “What happened out there Natasha” “The bloody weather destroyed one of the planes and caused us all to fall to our untimely deaths, I myself had the sense to have a parachute and landed safely but the Gestapo came and took the other sensible people away I barely got away with my life, the advance team found me near death on the edge of their camp” After hearing this Sigmund gave Natasha a tight hug “If you do something like that again, ill kill you myself” “She chuckled and the fell unconscious, the doctor rushed in after hearing Sigmund call for him and told Sigmund to leave and give the poor girl some rest, Sigmund agreed she had seen her entire team get slaughtered and had barely made it out herself.
Chapter 6: Siege of the sparrows
Sigmund had stayed at the camp with the rest of the now confused commandos how was the operation going to proceed without the british soldiers infiltrating them but to everyone in the camps relief they receive news via radio that 6 more commandos were being dropped in and that the attack was about to commence, He waited for the drop to come in and true to the higher ups words there was an airdrop of six commandos each of whom Sigmund took the time of not memorizing there names because he had become accustomed to his group. Natasha was released from the medic tent and allowed to roam the grounds once more but she wasn’t allowed to fight with the advance force which made her more than a little jumpy. the germans had figured out they were coming after interrogating several of the fallen Englishmen all of whom were excuted the mines contained more mines and there were more floodlights though internal security had been slacking a bit if Gordon’s reports were accurate at all but the 75 meter bridge was still there and it was guarded 24/7 that would be a tough obstacle to overcome but with 10 commandos and an entire advance force they would be able to take it.
The advance force struck at midnight and the germans were prepared the battle was bloody as german guards clashed the advance force bodies amassed on both sides but Sigmund was nowhere near that he was carrying out his mission which was to destroy the plant so the advance force served as a distraction while the commandos snuck in through the mines thevmines planted on the floor were quickly and sidestepped but to their dismay a whole patrol was stationed at the entrance which was large enough so that if the 2 sides fought there would be losses but then 2 gunshots rang through the inside and 2 soldiers dropped down which left 2 more that were dealt with by the commando’s Sigmund exited the tunnel and looked up to see Gordon smiling with a sniper rifle “Routine check-up” He winked. The commando’s split up 5 going to locate the chamber where they processed heavy water and another 5 to blow up a ship carrying the last amount of heavy water.
Sigmund’s squad walked down the hallways encountering very few restiance till they reached the inner processing chamber where 3 guards stood watch their backs were turned so Sigmund took out his single shot rifle and fire one hitting one of the guards in the head the other 2 turned around only to be faced by the commandoes who hit them in the head with the butt of their gun and knocked them both unconscious Sigmund then proceeded to plant the explosives and set the time for 10 minutes at which point they high tailed it out of their and upon reaching the outside exit from the mines shot a flare in the air so that the signal to retreat would be given, out side his line of view Sigmund heard 2 huge explosions in unison with each other one was probably the explosives that Sigmund had set and the other would be gordon’s Sigmund looked up at the retreating soldiers and headed up the 200 ft gorge by climbing up with a hiking rope, he clipped himself too the other commandoes and began to climb.
Chapter 7: Reunion
Sigmund hurried back to camp where the germans would soon get the surprise of their lives, as soon as the flare was sent up Natasha had called in the B-52 bombers which dropped 120 bombs that devastated the landscape and the factory half of it had been reduced to nothing but a smoking crater most of the germans had escaped on a second ship that head sailed for germany as soon as the B-52’s were spotted. Sigmund’s happiness was cut short when he found what happened, Gordon had set the explosives but a malfunction had caused him to stay there and manually detonate it therefore killing himself in the processes he had saved America but at a deadly cost, Sigmund mourned for his loss and was depressed for days feeling as if he had lost a brother. Natasha did her best to comfort sigmund but to no avail, He had to set out once more to germany to fill in for the missing prescience of a scientist so he was quickly shipped out and sent on his merry way back to his office as was Natasha who had suffered a “ fall down the stairs” where she had broken her arm. The scientists began to chit chat about how hitler was thinking to move the base farther away from the shore’s that the U.S. had just landed on. To sigmunds surprise the order went through and the entire uranium club was moved except for the head of the storage of plutonium, he got to stay in berlin while the rest were moved into a permanent location elsewhere.
Soon after the U.S Project altos captured the german scientists and brought them in for interrogation Sigmund suggested that they be put in one building with hidden microphones everywhere so that when they speak of their findings or reminisce about how close they were to making a nuke they would actually be giving information to the U.S. and the idea was soon passed and it was a resounding success with the information from the german scientists Americans were able to create a nuke for themselves and unfortunately use it against the Japanese people. Soon after the uranium club was completely shut down and the research of the nuke was cut funding because of the german scientist’s kidnapping, the loss of heavy water and the fact the uranium and plutonium were expensive and cost germany lots of its war funds which ultimately led to the U.S. capturing and defeating germany in world war II. After world war II ended the operation altos was put down as the most successful sabotage even in history.
Epilogue: in honor of mr.freeman
Sigmund freud: Retired from the military at the ago of 40 and became a legend in and out of the textbooks, he received a medal for courage in the face of danger. He also married Natasha and had 3 kids all of which were born on the same day. He named them Gordon, Oliver and Klaus each in honor of someone who did a great deal for them. Sigmund became known as one of th greatest saboteurs in the world and became successful author and wrote a novel on his heroics and his trials and tribulations while stuck in the artic and then also wrote a book on how to survive in the artic tundra and commando tactics that will help you survive anything from a tussle with bears to an ambush from guerillas. Sigmund died from a heart disease at 85 and was proud to be a great grandfather before he did so.
Natasha: Natasha became engaged and the married to Sigmund she retired after the battle for the heavy water, she became a founder of a school after retiring from the military, to this day she is the principal of her school and is around 90 years old, she has a permanent arm injury after being shot in the tendon she is unable to move her arm very far up and go up only about 30 degrees. She also received a medal for courage in the face of certain death. She has a picture of a crowbar on her wall which simblifies a joke her Gordon and Sigmund used to share, she was the one who funded Gordon’s funeral and named the school she found after him.
Oliver and co: The commando team continued there service and became legendary figures that were told to the fresh ones to scare them, one fateful mission they were caught in a bombing raid and most of them were put out of commission the only who escape unscathed was oliver who grew to have 2 kids each one named after nastasha and Sigmund for being his friend many times over.
