HUNTER, Eric
DEMIGOD
5th Year at Camp
Age: 17
Son of Poseidon
Alliance: Undecided/Leans to Resistance
Appearance:
Eye(s): Dark blue, but when he’s angry they go black and stormy.
Hair: Black. Scruffy, a permanent bedhead.
Height: 5”7.
Build Type: Deceptively slender, yet he’s strong.
Brief Description: Eric has a deceptively slender build. While at first look you may think him a twig, almost, as he’s thin, take a closer look and you can identify the muscles. He’s strong. Eric’s skin is a pale colour, which coupled with his black hair which always looks like he’s just rolled out of bed (he has a permanent bedhead), his handsomely dark eyes and the fact that he prefers the colours black and red, people can often mistake him for a son of Hades or Ares, and consider him quite gothic. Don’t be fooled though, there is more to him that meets the eye. A closer look at his dark eyes reveals that they are a deep sea blue, though they flash black when he becomes unpredictable.
Eric likes, as stated, to wear clothes coloured black or red, but he can be seen in other colours. Often his attire includes ripped blue skinny jeans, military style boots or black converses, along with a t-shirt printed with a witty slogan and either a hoodie or a leather jacket. Sometimes he’ll wear fingerless gloves, or a t-shirt and beach shorts. For weapons, unlike his brother Trevor who possesses a ring which transforms into a blade, Eric has a beaded leather surf-style bracelet which transforms into an intricate sword made of celestial bronze, the hilt set with sapphires and aqua-marine gems. He also wears a shark tooth on a leather cord around his neck, but that holds no weapon based significance.
Background:
Mortal Parent(s): Charlotte "Lottie" Harcourt [DECEASED] [mother]
Other Family: Richard Harcourt [step-father], Daniel Harcourt [step-brother]
Pets: Bran, a tall, jet black pegasus stallion with no markings and bright blue eyes.
Brief History:
Born in the town of Aberystwyth, on the west coast of Wales, Eric was raised by the seaside. As such, he grew up beside the sea, and spent almost every day there learning to surf and playing volleyball with his friends. His mother had a job at the university there as a marine archeologist/explorer/professor, going out of dives in the English channel and even travelling to Greece in search of underwater treasures, which is incidentally where and how she met Poseidon.
It was on a dive that the two met, but what had first been seen to be a perfectly calm day was not to be. While Charlotte was out on a dive, a storm attacked. Well, not attacked, but you get the idea. Charlotte and her dive buddy, Matthew, were investigating a shipwreck and searching for some lost treasure, and had gotten distracted by the revelation that the ships were elephantegos. Used for transporting elephants to Rome for the gladiator games or the like, the ships had obviously been caught in a storm and become wrecked. The coral had grown round three elephant shaped humps on the ship, confirming the fact to the two archeologists. Unfortunately, when the storm struck Matthew was too close, too far into the wreck, and the raging waters caused him to lose control and crash into a sharp piece of coral that was one of the preserved elephant's tusks. Charlotte herself was tossed about in the swirling waters before her oxygen tank came loose and was ripped from her body. Being so deep down, she wasn't in massive danger of pressure but she'd drown before she reached the surface.
It was at this time, where Charlotte was half-unconcious and struggling to go for the surface in the underwater currents, that a man seemed to appear from the water itself right in front of her. Without waiting to inspect her, the stranger took ahold of her and wrapped an air buddle around them so she'd be able to breathe.
It was from this encounter that Charlotte fell in love with Poseidon. About 2 months after, when charlotte was about to go back to Wales to lecture at the university again, that Eric was conceived.
9 months later, Charlotte gave birth to a beautiful baby boy. He had bright blue eyes which would darken in time, and a mop of messy black hair that just hasn't ever sat right. One day when Eric was about 5 years old, Poseidon walked from the water at Aberystwyth beach where the boy was learning to surf at the time, and talked to Charlotte. He told her of a camp in America where Eric would be safe, but Charlotte wanted to keep Eric close, so she'd know if he ever got into any trouble. The only thing that Eric seemed to be good at was anything water related - he took to surfing like a duck to water, he won every swimming race at school. He also got kicked out of alot of schools, but mostly these weren't his fault. The teachers thought he started fights, when he was actually pushing through the crowds of kids trying to hide from being watched, a feeling which never stopped. At another school, when he was 6, the cafeteria managed to get coated with mashed potato, which actually had nothing to so with Eric but he was blamed anyway. Eventually, when he was 8, his mother started to home school him.
However, not long after being taken out of school, Charlotte met another man - Richard, one day on the beach. Richard was charming, pleasant, and kind to Eric at first, it was his son Daniel who was the problem. Daniel, who was the same age as Eric, started fights with the boy, bullied him relentlessly and blamed things on Eric which he had done. Another down-turn in Eric's life was when they moved to New York after Richard got a new job. All of a sudden Eric, who had been near the sea his entire life, was cut off. Isolated. He was bullied at school, the unpopular kid, the weirdo with sticky-up hair, strange eyes and Welsh accent. Daniel turned all of the other kids against him. Life took another downturn when Charlotte was mugged when walking home from working at a natural history museum, where she had a job tending to the marine samples. The mugging was botched and Charlotte got shot by an accomplice. Killed, for a few dollars. Eric was 11 at the time, and after that, Richard wasn't so kind anymore. He became the evil step-father, like the old hag in Cinderella. Eric was made to skip all homework, not that he minded, in favour of doing chores that Daniel should have done. A few months of this got too much and he ran away, but not before punching Daniel in the face, almost instantly attracting a hellhound with his scent, which was stronger than the average demigod's. Eric only got away by jumping into the East river, where he drifted downstream and ended up in the Manhatten channel, if that was it's name. He was found by a satyr who'd been tracking his scent, and taken to Camp where he was later claimed by Poseidon. Poseidon was the one who gave Eric his surfboard, which has no special powers except adjusting to his every change in height so he'd never have to get a new one. The Hephaestus cabin made his weapon and managed to compact it into the surfer bracelet. Eric has never gone back to New York. For all that Richard and Daniel know, Eric ran away and died somewhere.
Personality:
Eric is a party kid. Pretty much. He's pretty sociable, a joker, and favours witty comments. Sometimes he can be sarcastic and cynical. In other words, he's quite unpredictable, just like the sea.
Eric is sometimes prone to showing off and not knowing he's actually doing it. When he gets so focused on something is a good example of this. He's a natural at water sports, but is best at surfing. Eric holds his surfboard in massive esteem, he loves it and is extremely protective of it. Should anything happen to his beloved surfboard, then the one responsible, beware.
Likes:
- Surfing.
- Water fights.
- The beach. He likes it more than the lake, simply because he has greater influence over sea water.
- Parties.
- Pretty girls.
- Horses and pegasi.
Dislikes:
- Zeus.
- Flying.
- Anyone breaking his surfboard.
- Sponges. They suck up water so he can’t use it.
- Being bored.
Skills:
- Surfing, or any other kind of beach based sport. Anything involving water, basically.
- Apparently Apollo likes him, because he’s a musician with a voice and guitar skills to die for.
- Tree climbing.
- Showing off without noticing it.
- Water-travel.
- Communicating with equine animals.
Weaknesses:
- Pretty girls.
- Flying.
- He’s not overly fond of hellhounds.
Passions:
- Surfing.
- Being witty when the occasion arises.
- Developing his water manipulation powers.
- Hanging with his friends.
Fears:
- Loss of anyone close to him.
- Flying, or anything else to do with the air and sky.
- Zeus. Seriously, anyone with sense would be afraid of that over-powerful, massive ego-ed guy.
Hobbies:
- Surfing and beach parties, water fights, etc.
- Listening to music.
- Playing with water.
Fighting Specialty: Eric is a fair swordsman, but prefers a distanced attack. For this, his blade is a rapier, which allows for fast, efficient and stinging strikes to be given. He does like to use his powers to trick his opponent, although he uses them sparingly.
Describe the extent of your powers/abilities:
Eric, like all children of Poseidon, has the ability to breathe underwater. His clothes only become wet if he wants them too, and he can create air bubbles for others to use to breathe if they aren’t in possession of any water breathing abilities. He has manipulation powers over the water, but this is strongest with seawater and if he overuses it, he can become tired. Lastly, Eric has a sort of power similar to shadow or speed travel, but based with water. He can travel at rapid speeds through water, if there is a connecting flow between where he is an where he wants to go. So for instance, he cannot travel from the lake to the sea if there is no river in between.
As all Poseidon children can do, Eric can communicate with anything equine.
Fatal Flaw:
Extreme loyalty. If a loved one gets in trouble, he will literally risk his life, hell he’ll risk anything to go save them, but generally he does try to think before he leaps into a situation.
Please describe why you think you can stabilize a powerful character. Minimum of two well-developed paragraphs **Big Three Only**:
I’m experienced, which my posts as Katy Knight, Scott O'Sullivan and Lilly Winters show, although obviously we all have our off-days. I’ve simmered down Eric’s powers so he isn’t too powerful and can flood the entire camp with a flick of his hand, which is just way over the top. I’ve been RPG since I was about 12, so that’s maybe 7 years with a 1 year break for general lack of muse and active sites. I know I have three characters already, but I have handled up to 7 on previous sites comfortably, and it is unlikely that I will go above 4 characters.

Role Playing Sample:
As the monster's essence drained slowly out of the beast and was returned to Tartarus, Katy's brown gaze met the enraged golden gaze of their attacker. She was glad she'd moved when she had, Katy had noticed that Jake had been a few feet from entering the Elysian Fields. It's fangs dripping venom, the serpent was watching her like a hawk, like she was now the prey. Even though she had three daggers, Katy highly doubted she'd be able to hold off the monster for long with them. She'd be able to get a few good hits in though. Jake shouted out to her about his keychain, the one hooked at her belt. The snake had been about to strike her but when Jake called out, it's attention moved back to him, it's streamlined cone-shaped head twisting round in a jerking movement.
Following Jake's instruction, Katy yanked the keychain from her belt, breaking her beltloop in the process. She twisted it's head as she'd been told, switching her dagger to her left hand and the keychain turned sword in her right. Jake's blade was beautiful, the gladius of celestial bronze was etched with the word MERCY. This serpent won't get any mercy from me, Katy thought. The snake was still losing it's essence to Tartarus, but it's movements weren't getting any slower. Rather, it's rage at being stabbed and distracted so easily gave it the adrenaline rush needed to keep fighting.
Katy caught movement from the corner of her eye, Jake had twisted his lion keychain and it became his other sword. She could even see the word JUSTICE etched on the blade. Sneaking up behind the snake again, she distantly saw Jake make another move, slashing at the serpent's eye with his shirt and then stabbing it in one eye. A smile twitched at her lips, that was a deceptive move Katy was proud of. Unfortunately, the serpent reared back, roaring in pain and rage, and Jake lost his sword. Katy froze as the serpent's tail smashed into Jake accompanied by a wave of water. "Jake!" Without thinking, Katy shouted out, panic lacing her voice. Jake wasn't moving much from what she could see, but the water was swirling furiously round him from the momentum so he could have been dancing and she wouldn't have seen.
Katy's shout had distracted the half-blind serpent from Jake, which gave him time to swallow an ambrosia cube. Still thrashing, the serpent moved in to disable Katy. She was the only visible threat left. Golden sand-like essence poured furiously from it's damaged eye socket, meaning that the serpent had to move in closer to Katy to see her. It's depth perception was out, likely. Taking her opportunity, Katy struck as the cone-shaped head shot forward. She raked Jake's blade across the snake's face, cutting a long, deep gash just below it's working eye, then twisted her body and buried her dagger in the beast's soft throat. She heard Jake call out in concern, but she was hidden behind the scaly green body. The serpent twitched, golden sand pouring from it's multiple wounds and moved round to go back for Jake, it's tail swinging round. Seeing the hit coming, Katy reached behind her and drew the concealed dagger at the small of her back, and threw. She may not be good at archery, but knife throwing was something she excelled at. The strike hit true, the dagger burying itself just below the creature's jawbone in the soft yellow flesh. Unwilling to throw Jake's sword and with no time to draw and throw her last dagger, Katy could only brace herself for the tail strike. The tail struck her side, shooting her towards shallower water and Jake. Water swirled around her from the momentum, probably alerting Jake to her being nearby if her yelp of pain didn't do that already. Checking for broken ribs, Katy held back another yelp as at least three of her ribs shifted painfully. She drew her last dagger and aimed for the beast's throat, throwing it as far as she could despite the grinding, shooting pain in her chest.
