Brief History:
Min Hwang was the daughter of a Korean family and was doing her best to help support her family after her brother had a car accident that left him paralyzed from the waist down. She had her bachelor's and was planning on going for her doctorate. While she still went to school part time, she also had several jobs on the side. However, once in a while she was able to get away and enjoy doing other things she enjoyed like playing piano. In fact, that was what brought her together with Apollo. She would sometimes play at amateur nights, and that was how they met. After she performed, she ran into him (literally), and they immediately hit it off and began to date. While it was difficult for them to see one another with her schedule, they still managed. They would spend hours talking, playing music, and just enjoying each other's company.
One day, Min sat nervously waiting for Apollo, though she knew him as Flynn, so that she could tell him that she was expecting. What she didn't plan on telling him was that her family had almost disowned but that her brother had managed to convince them to be supportive. After telling him her news, he revealed who he really was to her and the two spoke about what would happen with the child. Apollo knew that he could not take her to Olympus, but they both knew that it would be a struggle for Min to keep the child with her. However, Min decided that she could not give up her child especially since she had already begun to look forward to being a mother. Kalina was born healthy with almost all of her mother in her. What she inherited from her father seemd to be her abilities.
Min worked very hard to give her daughter the life she thought Kalina deserved, but it was difficult. She didn't want to give up on her dream of becoming a psychologist and so continued to go to school leaving Kalina with her grandparents and uncle. At first, Min's parents were cold with Kalina and would criticize her harshly, but as she grew and proved to be a great help and kind to them despite their treatment of her, they soon grew to dote on her. Unknown to them, Kalina still held their earlier harsh words in her heart, and though they did make up for it, she still found it hard to let go of some of the things they had said. Her uncle on the other hand was one of her favorite people. He encouraged her musical talents and got her interested in sports. Together he and Min taught her much about the world and instilled many of their values in her.
When Kalina turned eight, her family changed. Min had met somebody in one of her classes. His name was Nathaniel Ryans; he already had a family of his own from a previous marriage that had come to an end. At first Kalina was nervous around him and would barely speak, but over time she found him to be somebody she could talk to and enjoy time with. Though Kalina never spoke of it to her mother, she had felt rather left out when it came to Father's Day and other activities. She sensed that somehow mentioning it would make her mother sad. Soon, Nathaniel and Min were married, and Kalina settled into a new family. Immediately, she became close with her step siblings. The boys were very protective of her and she of them.
Her family life was wonderful, but Kalina struggled in school just as many other demigods. While she loved to learn and read, she found things very difficult and dreaded having to read out loud. She was diagnosed with ADD and dyslexia which worried her mother. Min knew that Kalina would have to endure teasing, but Kalina never let on that it bothered her. While most of it didn't, a few choice words from people did. Many of them were against her mother because she still had a little bit of an accident which would often cause Kalina to get into fights. As such, Kalina moved to many schools over the years while her brothers remained at another, though they often offered to come and beat the other kids up too.
Then, when she was ten, everything changed. She was reading in the library when one of the librarians came up to her and asked her to come help with the projections needed for Kalina's class. Once the door was closed, the woman changed to her monster form and tried to corner Kalina. Thankfully, all of Kalina's work with her brothers and uncle at sports served her well. She was able to slip past the attacks and in some unknown way scored a few hits on the monster before she got through the door. Before doing so, she realized that a sign was above her, but she did not stop to think on it. She ran as fast as she could and didn't realize that she was trying to get home until she was standing at the door. Once she had told her mother what had happened and about the sign, Min knew that she had to get Kalina to safety. Kalina's only friend from school soon came and took her away. Min promised that she would write and that things were going to be alright, and so Kalina was spirited away.
Upon her entrance to Camp Half Blood, Kalina found it difficult at first to get used to her surroundings. She had been extremely close to her family, and suddenly being without them was strange. Still, after things were explained to her, she knew that keeping them safe was more important. She found that the sign that had appeared above her was that of Apollo, and deep down she felt some hole fill just a bit. It was nice to know that she now knew the identity of her father. Unlike many campers she met, she felt no ill will towards her father. Though she didn't see him, she still had a nice reminder of him. Her first year at Camp Half-Blood, though she enjoyed archery and music, she spent much time with the various horses in the stables. One day, she found one just for her, and from then on flying became another fun part of camp life. While she enjoyed herself, Kalina still kept many of her emotions inside. She didn't want to worry others about how she was doing, and as she had been doing her whole life, she kept much of her bottled up except those that were very close to her.
Over the years, Kalina remained very active in everything. Though she wasn't particularly fond of some of the activities, she always put everything she had into them. She made friends for the first time in her life, and she maintained a steady communication with her family. Sometimes she would go home for the summer, but sometimes she didn't want to risk it. On one of her trips home, she was able to meet her new baby sister for the first time. Lately, things have gotten harder for her family since Nathaniel lost his job, but the family remains optimistic though Kalina worries about it from time to time. Through it all, Kalina always had time to listen to and help others no matter the problem. Now, Kalina just wants to improve her abilities and prove herself to others as well as to make friends and help other campers.
Personality: Katrina is a very caring, kind, and active person. She is always willing to listen to others and fights for the rights of others if things seem not to be equal. She is also very protective of her friends and family, so you don't want to mess with them unless you're looking for a fight. She's hard on herself and determined, but she's quite patient with others. Though she knows she shouldn't, Kalina bottles up her emotions because she doesn't want to trouble others or let them know if they have hurt her. Sometimes, this will bubble over, but she finds it comforting to listen to music or ride her winged horse. The one vulnerable side that comes out is her romantic side. This is something she gets from her mother who is a huge romantic. Though she tries not to show it, she has a soft spot for cute and romantic gestures. She enjoys meeting new people, and she is willing to help those that need and/or want it.

Theme Song: Season of Love from Rent
ALL
Five hundred twenty-five thousand
Six hundred minutes,
Five hundred twenty-five thousand
Moments so dear.
Five hundred twenty-five thousand
Six hundred minutes
How do you measure, measure a year?
In daylights, in sunsets, in midnights
In cups of coffee
In inches, in miles, in laughter, in strife.
In five hundred twenty-five thousand
Six hundred minutes
How do you measure
A year in the life?
How about love?
How about love?
How about love? Measure in love
Seasons of love. Seasons of love
JOANNE
Five hundred twenty-five thousand
Six hundred minutes!
Five hundred twenty-five thousand
Journeys to plan.
Five hundred twenty-five thousand
Six hundred minutes
How do you measure the life
Of a woman or a man?
COLLINS
In truths that she learned,
Or in times that he cried.
In bridges he burned,
Or the way that she died.

Tho' the story never ends

Kalina gazed up at the night sky from where she sat on the ground by the archery fields. She knew that it was almost time to be back in the cabins, but she wanted to enjoy this peace for just a moment. It had been a rather long day, and she had many things scrambling over one another in her mind. Though she would normally try to solve this problem through music, visiting Kala, or escaping to the world of the written word, tonight seemed different. Things weighed a little more heavily on her than usual, and the night air seemed to be calling to her though she was a daughter of the God of light. Besides, it was good to be away from the noise of the cabins once in a while though she did like her cabin mates quite well.
A bow was leaning against one of the targets that were to her right. Until about an hour ago, she had been putting in extra practice. Though she usually did well in archery, today she had missed nearly a third of her shots. This she had deemed unacceptable and swore to practice until she hit fifty targets in a row close to the center. Anything too close to the outside and she would have to start over. It had taken her quite some time to achieve her goal as she was critical of nearly every shot she took. Kalina was often hard on herself, believing that she could always do better and that her best wasn't enough. She knew that part of it was that she had injured herself playing volleyball earlier that day, but she hadn't wanted to let on. While she could've worked on it herself, there had been no real time for her to do so as today was her training day.
Now, she felt exhausted, and her mind was going so fast that it was making her even more so. Finally, she let herself fall backwards onto the ground. Her dark eyes remained on the heavens above her, and she began to do a breathing exercise to relax herself. From the direction of the cabins, she heard laughter and music which meant that the campers were all moving back towards their beds. She moved to a standing position and made to grab her bow so that she could return to her cabin to joke around with her friends and listen to her music, but she stopped. For a moment, she stood rooted to the spot as her eyes gazed around to make sure that nobody was watching. Then, she suddenly started spinning around the open archery field. She whirled and twirled around, and though she felt tired she felt free as well. It wasn't often that she allowed herself to do things like that as she had been made fun of for doing it before.
Finally, she stopped and composed herself before grabbing her bow. "Father," she whispered towards the sky as she stood there, "I know that I should be more open with emotions and with who I am in my entirety, but I don't think I can just yet. Thank you for the guidance you've given me. Some day I hope to make you proud. Good night." Kalina often spoke to her father in this manner though few knew that she did. As she walked, the sound of laughter drifted to her from all the cabins. She smiled to herself knowing that soon she'd be talking and laughing with friends, but she knew that she still had a while to go before she could be open with her entire being. Until then, she would just have to keep trying.
